Water conservation is serious business in North Texas. The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex depends on several reservoirs for our water. The government is looking at 10% water conservation to support future growth and they have their eye on lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems as the main waste of water.

In our experience, it is very true! Approximately 50% all irrigation system water is wasted and many times it never reaches the grass or target plants. Sadly many homeowners or businesses get the nice looking lawn or water savings that an irrigation system is supposed to provide. There is typically several rather simple repairs that can improve performance, save water and money.

Many of these enhancements or repairs will pay for themselves in just a couple of season. Perhaps just as important to many is that they lawn looks better because it is healthier. Over watering is just as bad as under watering a plant. In addition, we have seen humidity levels in the Fort Worth and Dallas area increase over the last 30 or so years. Irrigation has to play a large role in this when we see as much as 20 to 40% of the water evaporate before it even reaches the lawn.

The reason so much water is evaporated is high system pressure. The irrigation system produces too much mist. This mist often drifts away or simply evaporates. Other reasons for poor performance include worn or clogged sprinkler nozzles, worn seals in the sprinklers heads or simply misaligned or broken parts.

ELS Landscape has a Texas A&M certified irrigation auditor. Soon we hope to achieve our goal of becoming a EPA Water Sense Partner. ELS Landscape is already an EPA Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Partner so this step seems very logical.

We will service Irrigation and provide audits all through the DFW area.
